Information Cage
Information Cage is an interdisciplinary composition and social experiment by Hubert Kamiński, which will premiere in December at Pawilon. The composition involves 7 people selected through an open call, who will answer questions during the performance and thus shape its further course.
"For a long time, I've been fascinated by the idea of a composition that is variable, that can go in a different direction each time, that depends on many factors. I can't imagine creating pieces that are then performed the same way, because I wouldn't see myself in the audience. Why would I listen to it again? As an artist, I try to engage with current topics, to perceive the reality we live in, and we live in a very changing reality that is undergoing a great transformation. Before our eyes, the world is entering what science fiction authors wrote about decades ago.
If the Information Cage project has inspirations, they are certainly found in compositions by artists such as Alexander Schubert or Johannes Kreidler.
The aforementioned Schubert wrote about the concept of "New Aesthetic" in his 2021 work Switching Worlds. He talks about how in the post-digital, post-internet world, the means have changed and therefore many artists incorporate completely different, non-musical media into their works. He also suggests that this is related to the convergence of machines and humans.
Of course, Schubert was not the first person to draw from non-musical phenomena and arts. In this context, it's worth mentioning "The New Discipline" created by Jennifer Walshe.
Walshe wrote about this phenomenon in 2016: "The New Discipline" is a term I started using in the last year. It allows me to connect fundamentally different compositions that combine physicality with theatrical, visual and musical elements; compositions expressing non-musical content that refer to what is non-auditory. Works that require auditory, visual and mental activity. Works that allow us to understand that there are people on stage and these people have bodies; they are bodies."
